Transition areas( entries, stairways, hallways) within the home should not be overlooked as opportunities for great design. The entry to your home, your front door and the space around it, is each visitor’s first introduction to what will follow. It’s the first chance to make a great impression. It should be well lit and provide a space for hanging coats, umbrellas, boots, etc. It’s nice to have a mirror and a place to put down a purse, briefcase, hat and packages. As space permits, a bench or chair is another inviting feature. There are so many ways to enhance stairways and halls…artwork, decorative lighting, carpeting, paint…wallpaper is making a comeback. Decorative light fixtures not only provide light, but can lend interest to a long hall or stair. The wall at the end of a hallway is a wonderful place to make a handsome statement. It’s the visual destination as you move through the space.
